Personalized Treatment for Misophonia
Everyday sounds and sights can bring overwhelming emotions and distress for people with misophonia. At Misophonia Treatment Centers of America, our clinicians help you work toward reducing these reactions through evidence-informed treatment tailored to your individual needs.
Our licensed clinicians are specifically trained by us in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Misophonia (CBT-M), an approach focused on understanding your responses and helping you make meaningful progress in daily life.

Specialized Misophonia Care
Understanding Your Experience
Misophonia affects each person differently. We begin by understanding the sounds and sights that trigger your reactions, the emotions and physical responses you experience, and how these affect your routines and relationships.
This understanding guides a personalized treatment approach that reflects your challenges and the changes that matter most to you.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Misophonia (CBT-M)
CBT-M is the foundation of our treatment services. Our clinicians receive specialized training in this approach, using techniques Dr. Nate Mitchell has employed since 2018 to help individuals substantially reduce their misophonia symptoms.
Treatment is tailored to your experience, with the goal of reducing—and, where possible, eliminating—the emotional and distress responses associated with your triggers. Individual outcomes vary.
Addressing Conditioned Trigger Responses
Our approach draws on Tom Dozier’s work in misophonia theory, research, and treatment since 2012.
It incorporates our theory that misophonia involves an acquired reflex developed through conditioning. Under this model, certain sounds or sights become associated with automatic reactions that contribute to emotional distress.
Treatment uses counterconditioning techniques intended to weaken these learned responses. Your clinician guides this process according to your individual needs and progress.
Education & Practical Support
Understanding your reactions is an important part of treatment. Your clinician helps you learn how our treatment model explains misophonia and how the techniques used in your sessions relate to your experience.
Throughout treatment, you receive guidance in developing and applying skills, discussing challenges, and working toward your personal goals.
